6. Balayage Brunette

What Worked Best

Root depth on anything lighter than my natural colour. The two bronde attempts were identical except for this, and only one of them worked.
Pink over a dark base. I expected this to be the outlier and it was one of the strongest, because a wash over dark hair is low contrast by construction.
Re-glossing rather than re-colouring. Six to eight weeks, a fraction of the cost, and it restores the part that actually fades.
What I Would Do Differently
I would stop asking for highlights. Three of my fifteen were highlight variations and all three failed the same way. I kept assuming the last one had been done badly.
I would have tried blonde in year one. I lost twelve months assuming the shade was the variable.
I would ask for root depth by default. It is a small addition that decides whether a lighter colour looks anchored or washed.
